Practical session - 4 hours

In the practical session you will:

• demonstrate knowledge of the hazards associated with wearing a safety harness and associated equipment;
• demonstrate knowledge of safety harnesses and associated systems and equipment;
• check and fit a safety harness system;
• use a safety harness system where a fall hazard exists at height; and
• demonstrate knowledge of the rescue plan to be activated in the event of a fall.

• ​carry out operations in a workplace environment.

• report faults and damage.

NZQA unit standards include

• 23966 – Describe types of elevating work platforms (MEWPs), and legislative requirements for their use

• 23960 – Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a scissor lift elevating work platform (MEWP)

• 23962 – Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a self-propelled boom lift elevating work platform (MEWP)

• 17600 - Explain safe work practices for working at heights (Level 3, credits 3)

• 23229 - Use a safety harness for personal fall prevention when working at height (Level 3, credits 4)
