Urine Collection & Onsite Drug Screening
Gain the practical skills and knowledge needed to collect urine specimens and carry out on-site urine drug screening in the workplace.
This course is designed for people who are responsible for workplace urine drug testing. It covers the collection of urine specimens, quality control, specimen integrity testing, on-site drug screening, documentation and the interpretation of screening results.
Training includes practical activities and assessment to ensure learners can follow appropriate workplace drug testing procedures confidently and consistently.
Unit Standards
US25458 – Perform urine specimen collection in the workplace for drug testing
Level 3 | 2 credits
This unit standard covers preparing a donor for urine specimen collection and collecting and dispatching the donor's specimen for drug testing.
US25511 – Perform urine drug screening in the workplace
Level 4 | 4 credits
This unit standard covers quality control, urine integrity testing, on-site drug screening, documentation and the interpretation and explanation of screening results.
Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Prepare the environment and donor for urine specimen collection
- Follow the required urine specimen collection process
- Collect and handle urine specimens correctly
- Prepare specimens for dispatch where further laboratory testing is required
- Describe quality control requirements for on-site urine integrity testing and drug screening
- Carry out on-site quality control procedures
- Perform urine integrity testing
- Perform on-site urine drug screening
- Accurately document screening and quality control results
- Interpret and explain integrity test and drug screen results
- Identify appropriate actions following screening results
Who Should Attend?
This course is suitable for people who have already completed US25458 and US25511 training within the past three (3) years. Eligibility for the refresher course will be confirmed on an individual basis, taking into account the learner’s previous training, assessment and evidence of competency.
Delivery method: Online via Zoom and practical
The course combines theory with practical demonstration, hands-on specimen collection and drug screening activities.
Learners must successfully complete the required theory and practical assessments to be awarded the applicable NZQA unit standards.
