COURSE OVERVIEW

If you operate a Mobile Elevated Working Platform (MEWP), it is important that you have been trained in the safe use of the type of MEWP you will be operating. Our training will provide you with knowledge and hands on experience to ensure that you understand your responsibilities and have the skills to safely operate an MEWP.

We have the latest Genie Scissor Lift and Self-propelled knuckle boom for your training experience.

You will learn about the types of MEWPs, their suitability for purpose; and safety features;– legislative requirements in relation to the Code of Practice and the use of MEWPs including how to safely set up and operate the required MEWP.

In the practical session you will assess the worksite, and prepare to use the MEWP; – carry out operations in a workplace environment; – report faults and damage; and – shut down the MEWP.

Scissor lift only (Unit standard 23966 and 23960)

23966 – Describe types of elevating work platforms (MEWPs), and legislative requirements for their use (Level 3, Credits 2)

23960 – Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a scissor lift elevating work platform (MEWP) (Level 3, Credits 3)

 

Scissor lift and self-propelled boom lift (Unit standard 23966, 23960 and 23962)

23966 – Describe types of elevating work platforms (MEWPs), and legislative requirements for their use (Level 3, Credits 2)

23960 – Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a scissor lift elevating work platform (MEWP) (Level 3, Credits 3)

23962 – Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a self-propelled boom lift elevating work platform (MEWP) (Level 4, Credits 5)

WHO NEEDS WHAT TRAINING/UNIT STANDARDS?

If using a harness in an MEWP you are required to be trained in the safe use of a harness as outlined in the Best Practice Guidelines.

“A recommended means of achieving competence for harness use is the NZQA Unit Standard 23229 – Use a Safety Harness for Personal Fall Prevention When Working at Height. An operator may also be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge

and skills or have an equivalent or a higher international qualification.

 

Where any person is working at height, a recommended means of achieving competence is the NZQA Unit Standard 17600 – Explain Safe Work Practices for Working at Height, or equivalent or a higher international qualification.

To operate an MEWP you will the require the compulsory theoretical unit standard 23966 – Describe types of elevating work platforms (MEWPs), And legislative requirements for their use

 

In addition to this you will require the specific unit standard (or equivalent) for the type of MEWP you will be operating

 

  • Unit Standard 23966: Describe Types of Elevating Work Platforms (EWPs) and Legislative Requirements For Their Use (Note: People need to do this unit standard before unit standards 23960 through 23964)
  • Unit Standard 23960: Assess the Worksite, Prepare and Operate a Scissor Lift Elevating Work Platform (EWP)
  • Unit Standard 23961: Assess the Worksite, Prepare and Operate a Truck Mounted Elevating Work Platform (EWP)
  • Unit Standard 23962: Assess the Worksite, Prepare and Operate a Self-Propelled Boom Lift Elevating Work Platform (EWP)
  • Unit Standard 23963: Assess the Worksite, Prepare and Operate a Trailer Mounted Elevating Work Platform (EWP)
  • Unit Standard 23964: Assess the Worksite, Prepare and Operate a Vertical Lift Elevating Work Platform (EWP)
  • Unit Standard 17259: Operate an Elevated Work Platform Vehicle for Arboriculture.
